Aligning Geospatial Ontologies Logically

چکیده

Information sharing and updates have become increasingly important in the rapidly changing world. However, owing to the distributed and decentralized nature of information collection and storage, it is not easy to use information from different sources synergistically. Ontology plays as an important role in establishing formal descriptions of a domain of discourse. In geographic information science, the rapid developments of crowd-sourced geospatial databases challenge and also bring opportunities to the current geospatial information development framework. In this paper, a new semi-automatic method is proposed to align disparate geospatial ontologies, based on description logic and domain experts’ knowledge.

Matching Formal and Informal Geospatial Ontologies

The rapid development of crowd-sourcing or volunteered geographic information both challenges and provides opportunities to authoritative geospatial information. Matching geospatial ontologies is an essential element to realizing the synergistic use of disparate geospatial information. We propose a new semiautomatic method to match formal and informal real life geospatial ontologies, at both te...

Concept Level Matching of Geospatial Ontologies A methodology and tool support for semi-automatic alignment of heterogeneous geospatial ontologies

The problem of querying geospatial databases in a distributed environment can be resolved by aligning the ontologies that describe each database. The alignment process consists of establishing mappings between related concepts in the ontologies. Once such mappings are established, data can be integrated. In particular, a query written in terms of an ontology can be translated into queries on th...

Matching geospatial ontologies

In recent years, multiple geospatial ontologies have been developed for a wide range of different spatial databases. In addition, the development of volunteered geographic information both challenges and provides opportunities to the traditional authenticated geospatial information. Though volunteered geographic information is typically not as reliable and structured as the authenticated geospa...

Semi-automatic Ontology Alignment for Geospatial Data Integration

In geospatial applications with heterogeneous databases, an ontology-driven approach to data integration relies on the alignment of the concepts of a central ontology that describe the domain, with the concepts of the ontologies that describe the data in the local databases. Once the alignment between the global ontology and each local ontology is established, users can potentially query hundre...

Probabilistic Geospatial Ontologies

Partial knowledge about geospatial categories is critical for knowledge modelling in the geospatial domain but is beyond the scope of conventional ontologies. Degree of overlaps between geospatial categories, especially those based on geospatial actions concepts and geospatial enitity concepts need to be specified in ontologies. We present an approach to encode probabilistic information in geos...
